Be inspired by successful apprentice stories from across our business.
Charlee-Jo has always had a keen interest in engineering so when the opportunity arose to join Carwood as an apprentice in that area, so knew she had to apply. Find out about her journey and how she has grown with the business by reading the below.
“I’m currently 17 months into my apprenticeship with Carwood.”
“I’ve always had an interest in engineering, so when I came across an apprenticeship specialising in this area, with an innovative, tech-focused company, it really caught my eye. I researched Carwood online before I applied, and I liked what I saw. I could really see myself growing and developing there…and if my experience so far is anything to go by, I was right.”
“I’ve really enjoyed getting stuck in and tackling every task that comes my way. This has allowed me to progress through each department, learning almost every fuel technology from Delphi to Bosch and developing great working relationships along the way. I also enjoy going to college as it allows me to further develop my engineering skills, building on what I’ve learnt on the job, and vice versa, while making even more friends.”
“First and foremost, proving to myself that I can adapt to and overcome challenges in different environments. At only 18 years old, it’s easy to doubt yourself from time to time. However, the apprenticeship has really shown me, and others, that I am capable of much more than I think. I also love learning new work skills. So not am I only growing as an individual, I’m growing and thriving in the business too. This blend of personal and professional development has given me a great platform to succeed in the future.”
“As with any apprenticeship, it’s been a steep, and at times, challenging learning curve. During my year and a half, I’ve learnt how to use all sorts of measuring tools like DTI gauges, micrometres and torque wrenches, alongside some advanced test equipment. I can now service and maintain these state-of-the-art machines to OE standards. Whilst not an easy task, my mentor has always been on hand to guide me through it.”
“I absolutely love building with Lego – it must be the engineer in me. My latest creation was the UCS millennium falcon from Star Wars. Knitting is also super therapeutic. Throw good rom-com and you’ve got my perfect evening.”
